CSA Press Release – Conference Features

CSA Conference Features Exclusive Networking Lounge and Product Display Area Scheduled for Wednesday 31st March at The Crystal in London, the first ‘Making Buildings Work’ conference has been further enhanced through the inclusion of a dedicated networking area. Having already won the backing of both Ashford Environmental Services and Media Control – two of the leading names in commissioning – the event can now boast a discussion and networking area where delegates can engage with a select number of product and service providers. Positioned adjacent to the main conference theatre, all refreshments and the buffet lunch will be served in the networking lounge, allowing attendees to discuss and debate the wealth of information being presented by the complement of Speakers. People too often think of commissioning as the final exercise in bringing a building into use, but this is incorrect. To ensure that its occupants can properly use any building, commissioning needs to be considered at the very outset of the project, with that consideration continuing throughout each stage of the project from concept through design, planning and installation. Having a broad range of products and services represented at the event – which is aimed at property developers, architects, main contractors, facilities management consultants and MEP service providers – will further help to ensure that an information rich, value for money day is provided for all those who have a vested interested in ensuring the commissioning phase of any build project is delivered correctly and on time. To help deliver this event, the CSA has assembled an impressive line-up of speakers from across the construction, building services and commissioning arena which include: Ian Ellis of Siemens Building Technologies Adam Muggleton, the renowned Building Whisperer Remi Suzan of Gratte Brothers Liz Day of CWT Consultants Terry Sharp, Vice President of the BCIA Nick Till of Banyards CSA Chairman, Mark Todd, will Chair the concluding panel discussion, whereby delegates will have the opportunity to interact with all the day’s Speakers. Commenting on the event, Mark Todd said, “this suite of presentations and talks, along with the resulting discussions will provide valuable insight into the correct way to design, plan and install building services to ensure optimum best practice and in turn a successful commissioning phase, leading to a correctly working building. I would invite everyone with an interest in good, effective commissioning to book their place.” Through the support of the event sponsors, delegate fees have been kept to the bare minimum at just £95.00 +VAT per person, which includes all refreshments and a buffet lunch. For more information, including the full programme, and to book your place, please visit the website – www.csa-conference.co.uk – or call/email the CSA office on +44 (0)1403 754133 or office@csa.org.uk.

Passing of Brian Townsend

” For those in the know, the recent passing of Brian Townsend on Sunday 15th September is a huge loss, not just to his immediate and extended family, but to the Commissioning industry as a whole. Our industry has lost an ambassadorial leader. Brian set up one of the UK’s very first Commissioning companies in 1976, End Systems. Following my apprenticeship elsewhere, I was employed by Brian in 1998, where I “cut my teeth” in the commissioning sector, working out of their Aldar House HQ. He was a hard task master, but the education that Brian prided himself upon has been passed down through every employee and many pillars of the community all started their careers under Brian’s leadership, moreover these ethics still remain today. You only have to look at the number of long term employees End Systems has retained, many of whom have over 30 years under their belt. Brian remained at the Helm for 43 years until his retirement in late 2017. His dedication to the Commissioning Specialists Association is unparalleled and as a Committee Member of the CSA’s GCC Chapter, I hereby salute you sir..” LEE HEWITT MANAGING PARTNER

Another busy month for Core Emirates

September was another busy month for Core Emirates, with our Managing Partner Lee Hewitt attending multiple events including Construction Weeks Leaders in Construction UAE Summit, the FM EXPO and the Commissioning Specialists Association quarterly get-together. It is clear that the UAE’s construction and FM sector is facing challenging times and echoing many market leaders’ sentiments, Core Emirates feels that maybe a reset button needs pressing!? Despite the market mood it has been conversely refreshing to speak to some Developers this month who recognise the current market and see the value of implementing strategies that will bring long term benefits to their facilities by using BIM and pursuing LEED accreditation along with stringent implementation of modern technologies to ensure an enhanced customer experience. This will maximise the performance and ongoing energy efficiency of the properties life cycle. It will be the clients who recognise the long game, rather than the theoretical short term financial gains, who will ultimately be victorious and stronger. The CSA Quarterly meeting was hosted on this occasion by our friends at CSI International with the following committee members in attendance: Core Emirates, AESG, T&C Technology, CML, Sutton Commissioning & Management Consultancy, together with Individual Members, Lee Smith, Craig Watt, and Gary Williams A great collaboration as usual and a positive improvement in terms of increased memberships, both corporate and individual, moreover targets for the next quarter have been set. Core Emirates have offered to assist in the ongoing development of the website so watch this space. The CSA is always looking for specialists across the GCC to get involved, so if you wish to learn more, please get in touch
